Which Stove to Choose

Not sure which type of stove to choose?

Wood Burner or Multifuel    What KW    Cast Iron or Steel    Let us help you decide...

Wood Burning or Multifuel Stove?

A huge draw to wood burning is the environmental benefits. During its life, a tree will absorb the amount of carbon dioxide you would typically expend burning logs on a wood stove.  This means that wood burning is considered to be a low carbon option.  However it’s always essential to source seasoned wood and store this in the right way!  A 20% moisture content in the wood is considered to be right for burning and we will supply you with a moisture meter to measure this.

Multi-fuel is designed to burn a wide range of materials:

wood logs | smokeless fuel | anthracite | turf briquettes

Unlike wood burning stoves, the fuel bed needs to be de-ashed to create optimum combustion and efficient burning.  Despite the difference in their design, you will find that there is little or no difference in the heat outputs and efficiency levels.

What KW Do I Need For My Room?

Appliance output applications should be undertaken in an appropriate manner. Failure to do so will result in poor performance, overheating and/or uneconomical use of fuel.  Opening a window because the stove is too hot is not economical, so sizing of the room is essential.  We will size your room and advise you on the correct size of stove to suit you.

Cast Iron or Steel?

Since cast iron stoves are made from thick molten metal they take time to heat up compared to steel versions.  If you came into a cold house and want it to warm up as soon as possible, then a steel stove will enable you to achieve this quicker than a cast stove.  However cast stoves retain heat longer than steel stoves.
